Menteri Komunikasi dan Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid meminta generasi muda khususnya mahasiswa untuk menjaga penerapan nilai budaya saat memanfaatkan kecerdasan artifisial (Artificial Intelligence/AI) agar teknologi tersebut tidak menggerus warisan bangsa.
Hal itu disampaikan Meutya saat meninjau kesiapan Sekolah Tinggi Multimedia (STMM) Yogyakarta yang sebentar lagi akan menjadi Politeknik Digital (Poldigi) Yogyakarta pada 2025.
“Dalam rangka menghadapi kemajuan teknologi, (generasi muda) pemimpin-pemimpin itu harus punya wisdom, harus wisdom, harus wise. Maka dari itu berhadapan dengan teknologi yang nyaris tanpa nilai tentu kita juga harus menanamkan nilainya,” kata Meutya memberikan arahan kepada para mahasiswa di STMM Yogyakarta, Rabu.
Meutya mencontohkan salah satu bukti sukses dari penerapan budaya dalam pemanfaatan teknologi telah berhasil dilakukan oleh komunitas masyarakat yang tinggal di Kampoeng Cyber, Yogyakarta.
Mereka bersama-sama menghadirkan kolaborasi untuk membentuk wadah komunal menghadirkan konektivitas digital yang terjangkau dan dapat mendukung masyarakat setempat bisa memanfaatkan teknologi terbaru, dan inisiasi ini terus berjalan hingga saat ini yang hampir dua dekade lamanya.
“Tadi saya dari Kampoeng Cyber dan melihat gerakan itu merupakan satu kekuatan di mana teknologi dipadukan dengan kebudayaan yang ternyata bisa besar dan ternyata baik dan berhasil,” kata Meutya.
Maka dari itu, para mahasiswa yang tergabung menjadi bagian STMM diharapkan dapat mengambil langkah serupa apalagi mengingat bahwa Yogyakarta merupakan Kota Pelajar yang penuh budaya sehingga nilai-nilai terkait budaya harusnya sudah mengakar dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.
Meutya juga mengajak para mahasiswa untuk dapat menyambut teknologi terkini seperti AI dengan berfokus pada pemanfaatannya dan tidak melihatnya sebagai ancaman.
“Saya termasuk yang merasa bahwa teknologi harus diembrace, harus kita ikuti, harus kita tanggapi, bukan dilawan, dihadapi berhadapan-hadapan. Tapi bagaimana kita bisa mengambil keuntungan, kemanfaatan semaksimal dari kecerdasan artifisial inilah yang perlu ilmu-ilmu tersendiri,” katanya.
