Kondisi peperangan di Suriah masih terus menunjukkan dinamika pertempuran. Pada Jumat (6/12/2024), milisi yang disokong Amerika Serikat (AS), Pasukan Demokrasi Suriah (SDF) dilaporkan berhasil menguasai Kota Deir El Zor, yang merupakan kota utama di Timur negara itu.
Dalam laporan Reuters, aktivis dari platform media Deir Ezzor 24 yang memiliki kontak di kota itu, Omar Abu Layla mengatakan, pasukan pemerintah Suriah dan pejuang Irak yang didukung Iran telah menarik diri dari Deir El Zor sebelum SDF menyerbu masuk.
“Tak lama setelah itu, pasukan SDF menyerbu perbatasan Albu Kamal dengan Irak,” ujar dua sumber tentara Suriah.
Kota Deir El Zor telah berpindah tangan beberapa kali sejak konflik Suriah meletus pada tahun 2011 setelah protes terhadap Pemerintah Suriah pimpinan Bashar Al Assad.
Kota ini pertama kali jatuh ke tangan pasukan pemberontak sebelum kelompok ISIS merebutnya pada tahun 2014. Tentara Suriah, yang didukung oleh faksi Irak pro-Teheran, merebutnya kembali pada tahun 2017 dan menguasainya hingga hari Jumat.
Kemajuan SDF terjadi saat pemberontak Suriah yang dipimpin Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), kelompok Islamis yang sebelumnya berafiliasi dengan Al-Qaeda, menyerbu kota Homs di Suriah tengah pada hari Jumat. Para pemberontak HTS sebelumnya telah merebut kota Aleppo di Utara pekan lalu dan kota Hama awal pekan ini.
Kepala SDF Mazlum Abdi mengatakan kepada wartawan pada hari Jumat sebelumnya dalam sebuah konferensi pers di kota Hasakeh, pasukannya memiliki saluran komunikasi dengan HTS, khususnya untuk melindungi warga Kurdi yang tinggal di kota Aleppo. Diketahui, SDF diisi kebanyakan anggota dari suku Kurdi.
“SDF tidak bentrok dengan HTS tetapi SDF akan membela diri jika diserang. Kami berhubungan dengan AS dan Rusia untuk melindungi wilayah yang berada di bawah kendali mereka,” tambah Abdi, seraya mengatakan dirinya terkejut melihat pasukan pemerintah runtuh begitu cepat di tengah serangan pemberontak.
